OLIVIER VANDERSLEYEN has been teaching at ENSAV (Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Visuels – La Cambre), Brussels, since 1979. He is a member of the Belgian and European Press corps, and as cameraman has covered events like the fall of the Berlin wall, the war in Former Yugoslavia and conflict in Northern Ireland for the major TV broadcasters. He is a graduate of INSAS (Institut National Supérieur des Arts du Spectacle et des techniques de diffusion), Brussels; his first job was with FR3, in France, and has also worked with France Inter, France Culture and Sud Radio. He produces and directs documentaries on industrial heritage such as "Greenhouse Effects", "Mad about Hats", Arthur Brancart and the Marbrite or "Dr Biermans, a True Story" as well as on archaeological heritage: "The Tempest Stela" or on art: "Lost from sight". The narration is based on proven facts and documents that attest to them. The images are always a reflection of reality. There are never invented plans that can be misleading. Sources are always cross-checked and information verified. Experts are given the floor with their own voice and express their opinions freely.

Documentary ?
Documentary cannot be Fiction. Documentary is the Expression of a Reality!  To advance an untruth, is not to lie, except it is done with an intention to deceive, and even that intention, far from being always attended by a mischievous design, has sometimes a quite contrary tendency. But to render a lie innocent, it is not sufficient there should be no injury intended; a fixed persuasion should be obtained, that the mistake into which we lead the person our discourse is directed to, can be of no possible detriment either to him or any other: but it is difficult to obtain this certitude, consequently it is very seldom that a lie can be innocent. To lie for self-advantage is imposture; to lie for the emolument of another is fraud; to be guilty of a falsehood that may do harm is calumny, which is the worst kind of lying; and to advance an untruth, without profit or prejudice either to ourselves or others, is not lying, but fiction.
